Vektoripotentiaali
Tässä kappaleessa käsitellään ainoastaan kolmiulotteisia vektorikenttiä.
Aikaisemmin todettiin, että pyörteettömyysehdosta \(\nabla \times \mathbf{F} =\overline{0}\)
seuraa (yhdesti yhtenäisessä alueessa) skalaaripotentiaalin olemassaolo. Samaan tapaan
voidaan nabla-kaavan \(\nabla\cdot (\nabla\times {\bf A})=0\) perusteella kysyä, seuraako
lähteettömyysehdosta \(\nabla\cdot \mathbf{G}=0\), että vektorikenttä \(\mathbf{G}\) voidaan
esittää muodossa \(\mathbf{G}=\nabla\times {\bf A}\) jonkin toisen vektorikentän \(A\) avulla.
\[\nabla\times (\mathbf{A}+\nabla\psi) = \nabla\times \mathbf{A}+ \underbrace{\nabla\times \nabla\psi}_{=\overline{0}}
=\nabla\times \mathbf{A}.\]
Vektoripotentiaaliin voidaan siis aina lisätä mikä tahansa gradienttikenttä. Erityisesti tästä
seuraa käytännön laskujen kannalta hyödyllinen ominaisuus:
Perustelu: (toinen koordinaattifunktio \(\to 0\)):
Oletetaan, että \(\mathbf{G}=\nabla\times {\bf A}\) jollakin \(\mathbf{A}\). Valitaan
\[\psi =-\int A_2(x,y,z)\, dy,\]
jolloin \([\nabla\psi]_2=\psi_y= -A_2\). Tästä seuraa, että vektorikentälle \(\mathbf{B}=\mathbf{A}+\nabla\psi\)
pätee
\[\nabla\times \mathbf{B} = \nabla\times \mathbf{A}= \mathbf{G} \ \text{ ja }\
B_2 = A_2+[\nabla\psi]_2 = A_2 - A_2 = 0.\]
jossa toinen koordinaattifunktio on nolla. Muut kaksi tapausta vastaavalla tavalla.
Aivan kuten skalaaripotentiaalin
tapauksessa ongelmat liittyvät vektorikentän \(\mathbf{G}\) määrittelyjoukon \(D\) topologisiin
ominaisuuksiin. Yleensä ne eivät tuota ongelmia, esimerkiksi koko avaruuden, puoliavaruuksien
tai konveksien joukkojen tapauksessa (Täsmällinen ehto on \(\pi_2(D)=0\), eli alueen \(D\)
toinen homotopiaryhmä on triviaali. Tämä ei ole sama ehto kuin skalaaripotentiaalin kohdalla;
voidaan sulkea joukkoon \(D\) sisältyvään umpinaiseen pussiin.
Esimerkki 7.3.2
Määritä vektorikentälle
\[\mathbf{G} =2y\mathbf{i} +2x\mathbf{j}+2xy \mathbf{k}\]
jokin vektoripotentiaali.
Piilota/näytä ratkaisu
Todetaan aluksi, että \(\nabla\cdot \mathbf{G}=0\), joten vektoripotentiaali on olemassa
(koska määrittelyjoukkona on \(D=\mathbf{R}^3\)). Yllä esitetyn perusteella etsitään sellainen
vektoripotentiaali, jossa \(A_2=0\), ja kirjoitetaan ehto \(\nabla\times \mathbf{A}= \mathbf{G}\)
koordinaateittain:
\[\begin{split}\begin{cases}
\frac{\partial A_3}{\partial y}- \frac{\partial A_2}{\partial z} =\frac{\partial A_3}{\partial y}= G_1 = 2y &\\
\frac{\partial A_1}{\partial z}- \frac{\partial A_3}{\partial x} = G_2 = 2x &\\
\frac{\partial A_2}{\partial x}- \frac{\partial A_1}{\partial y} = - \frac{\partial A_1}{\partial y} =G_3 = 2xy. &\\
\end{cases}\end{split}\]
yksi kerrallaan. Erona aikaisempaan kannattaa kuitenkin aloittaa helpommista tapauksista,
eli ensimmäisestä ja kolmannesta yhtälöstä:
\[\begin{split}\begin{cases}
\frac{\partial A_3}{\partial y} = 2y & \Rightarrow A_3 = \int 2y\, dy = y^2+C_1(x,z) \\
- \frac{\partial A_1}{\partial y} = 2xy & \Rightarrow A_1 = -\int 2xy\, dy = -xy^2+C_2(x,z).\\
\end{cases}\end{split}\]
Sijoitetaan nämä tulokset toiseen yhtälöön, jolloin saadaan
\[ \frac{\partial A_1}{\partial z}- \frac{\partial A_3}{\partial x} = 2x
\Leftrightarrow \frac{\partial C_2}{\partial z}- \frac{\partial C_1}{\partial x} = 2x.\]
Kootaan lopuksi yhteen kysytty vektoripotentiaali
\[\mathbf{A} =(2xz-xy^2)\mathbf{i} +y^2 \mathbf{k}.\]
\[\mathbf{F}= \nabla u + \nabla\times {\bf A}.\]
Tämä on nimeltään
Helmholtzin hajotelma.
